Humans, The Cause of Damage

Pearl Pahuja, Class VIII B

The relation between the rapid destruction and change in the environment and the lifestyle of people is quite overt. The damage caused by humans has left no one. The plethora of ill effects caused by this damage is not known to humans.
Hence, this makes it a burning topic to be focused on. Global Warming has rapidly increased as a result of weakening of the ozone layer. This, inturn has resulted in increasing greenhouse effect and desertification. The temperature of earth is rising, causing forest fires and droughts. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane too contribute in the rising temperature.
Not only these but other issues such as melting of glaciers, rising sea level are at the verge of occurrence, which can lead to submerging of huge coastal regions. The greed of humans has resulted in poaching or illegal hunting of innocent animals for their body parts and products such as ivory, honey, skin, etc. This is causing damage to the biodiversity and the extinction of various plant and animal species.
Humans have not only damaged land but have also polluted water. Sacred rivers such as the Ganga can be compared to a dirty stinking drain. Droughts, water-borne diseases, shortage of water are all caused because of water pollution.
Cutting trees is the biggest offence or crime one can do. Trees are the guardians of humans who provide them with food and shelter and also cure to most of our diseases. They are the oxygen banks without which we cannot survive.
Knowing all this, we humans are destroying everything around. This cruelty shown by humans towards nature has bewildered and angered me. In true sense they are not destroying the nature but are destroying themselves. The environment and nature is the biggest treasure of Earth and it is the duty of humans to protect and conserve it.
God has given us brain for the betterment of mankind. We should work for the betterment of our planet to reduce its burden rather than increasing its pressure and creating further difficulties. So, it is a matter to be given thought upon for how long we can survive in these conditions and when will humans understand that if she lives only then we live…?
