Technology – The Way Ahead

Anshay Saboo, Class VIII A

In today’s times, technology is advancing so rapidly that even IT companies have trouble keeping up. We can’t say that technology is evolving – technology is evolution. We find it difficult to visualize a world without technology.
Saying that technology improves our lives is an understatement – for many people, technology is life. Some people cannot take their eyes off the television or unglue their hands from their phones. But every iCloud has a silver lining (no pun intended), and that’s why I’m writing this.
These days I almost never buy anything before checking if I could get a better price online. Apple has introduced Swift – an English-like programming language so simple that even children (like me) can develop and publish their own iOS apps. MIT has created Scratch, a graphical programming interface that allows even six-year-old kids to create their very own video games! Wikipedia has changed the way I research for my projects. Facebook has provided a platform to reach out to all friends and relatives all over the world.
Let’s also talk about how technology is changing the nation – from people living in villages to the CEOs of big IT companies. Let’s start with the story of Taushif Ansari, who, as a young man, dreamed of travelling to Mumbai and working there. His dream came true and he was able to get a job making jackets in his uncle’s shop. Day after day, he made jackets and earned basic wages every week. After a while, the shop was shut down and Taushif had to leave Mumbai. After settling down in a new city, Taushif bought himself a laptop. He browsed the internet and came to know about eBay. He used eBay’s online resources to start a clothing company and began exporting his goods. His company was soon selling in 60 countries and manufactured everything jackets to wallets. His original wages of Rs 5000 per month soon became Rs 1,00,000 per month.

It is evident how a single, small machine changed a man’s life for the better. To create more stories like Taushif’s, our PM has launched a new project called Digital India which focuses on using technology to educate and provide opportunities for every citizen of India.
