Educators at Shishukunj use a range of approaches to provide the Shishyans with varied learning experiences. Peer learning is an educational practice in which students interact with other students to attain educational goals. The Social Studies educators chose peer learning as an activity to aid retention and to encourage communication and collaboration. It also helps students strengthen their knowledge through intensive research.
The Shishyans of Class IV were given an opportunity to form groups and find out more about people who have added value to the society in the past through their valuable contributions. Books related to the topic were procured from the library well in advance and kept for reference in each class. During the Social Studies classes, all the groups studied about social reformers, ancient rulers, religious teachers, scientists of the ancient as well as the modern period of India. All these people have influenced our lives and are a source of inspiration to many people across our country. This activity added richness to the joyful learning experiences of the Shishyans. The activity aimed at fostering teamwork, cooperation and patience. Each student’s strengths complemented the group and the classrooms were indeed transformed into storehouses of knowledge and learning!
