A few days back, while playing football, I heard a comment which made me think really hard. The comment, directed to one of my teammates was ‘Why are you running so slowly? A girl can run faster than you!’
Friends, don’t you feel this is a very primitive thinking? In my eyes, girls and boys are equal. Girls should also be treated with equal respect. All of us are God’s creation and have the right to do whatever we wish to. but because of such stereotypes, a negative picture is presented in the society and many people still think that girls are weaker than boys. Many people still tag girls as delicate and weak. Even though there are many shining examples in front of us, we still look at girls with a different perspective.
If we peek into Indian history, the names of Rani Lakshmi Bai, Indira Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, amidst many others shine bright. Mary Kom, Geeta and Babita Phogat, P V Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Sania Mirza and P T Usha are just some of them who have brought laurels to the country and have proved that girls are no less than boys. They have marked India’s name on the world map and have won medals in their respective sports. These are examples of the fact that women are no less in any field.
As Gandhiji once said, “Women are companions of men, who are gifted with equal capacity.” We must respect all women and always treat them with equality.
