“Welfare’s purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence”

The Shishukunj International School, Indore had recently come up with a student-led dynamic initiative named the Shishukunj Social Outreach and Welfare Programme aiming to serve the underprivileged, uplift and empower individuals. The Programme consists of magnanimous members of classes 11th and 12th whose hearts are laden with the sense of philanthropy. Shishyans are divided into teams as per their expertise such as the New Initiatives Team, Media Outreach and Reporting Team, Logistics Team, and last but not the least, the Finance Team, each headed by two leaders. With the help of the authorities, the students come up with and lead various activities to help transition the society.

November 7, 2023, the day marked the dawn of the Shishukunj Outreach and Welfare Club as the students set out on their first mission. A group of 18 students went to the Ishaan Foundation, a NGO which adopts Anganwadis and focuses on their development. Upon reaching the Ishaan Foundation, students were divided into two groups, each containing 9 members who then went to meet different groups of Anganwadis. Each group visited 3-4 groups of Anganwadis where they interacted with children of age group 0-6 years. The highlights of the day included students playing games, dancing, singing and reciting poems with the children. With the festival of lights around the corner, students distributed sweets and firecrackers and turned ‘Diwali’ to a ‘Happy Diwali’ for the children. The purpose of this session of interaction was to identify and help provide the basic facilities that are required by the anganwadis to foster their development. As the students departed their hearts were filled with the sense of joy, belongingness and couldn’t wait to spend their time with those children again.
